MARTIN PARR PHOTOGRAPHY

I absolutely love Martin Parr photography, I love how he really strips back the family holiday and shows it for what it is, instead of the rose tinted view the travel agents seem to give.

Heres some of my favourite Martin Parr images...

Rachel Weisz for Another Magazine

These are just a few pictures from the shoot Another magazine did with Rachel Weisz, I remember flicking through the magazine a couple of weeks ago and just being awe struck by the power of them.
They are stills from the film Another Magazine which you can see here >>> http://www.anothermag.com/exclusives/rachel-weisz

The film is true inspiration to watch, inspired itself by postmodern dance legend Pina Bausch, who was the artistic director of the then Wuppertal Opera Ballet.

ELLE covers

I love ELLE magazine, and having moved into my new flat I have decided to document the things I do to decorate it...
I used to just stick magazines all over my walls with bluetack, but it started to look abit scruffy!

More of a miss rather than a hit - Versace for H&M Collaboration

H&M is famous for its designer collaborations - giving the masses their chance to own a designer piece. There has been Karl Lagerfield, Jimmy Choo, Lanvin, and now Versace. I have never been impressed with any of the collaborations, and neither have I bought any of the clothing. My reasons for this are simple:
1. I believe fashion should have some sort of hierarchy. Distinguishing not the customer, but the quality and workmanship you are paying for. Of course Versace and their consumers can pull off the vibrant and busy clothing - the quality of the product takes away that tackiness that comes with lower priced garments.
2. Fashion designers shouldn't be in fashion just to make a quick buck. I have a very romanticised view on high end fashion, designers shouldn't downgrade with a high street store. Its put on a pedestal for reason - made for a priviledged few and aspirational to the masses.
3. The clothes are bought for the wrong reasons - the garments in the collaboration will sell out in no time and H&M will be raising their glasses to yet another profitable collaboration. However just because something sells, doesn't mean it sells for the right reasons. I would place my money on many people buying a Versace for H&M
item, wouldn't even look at it without the Versace tag sewn in. People think that they are buying into a less expensive version of Versace, where as they are actually buying into a more expensive H&M VERSION of Versace. The clothing hasn't been made in the ateliers, hand sewn or embellished by the Versace manufacturers - they have been made by H&M with the same standards as their range.

Personally, I believe if you can't afford it then why try to buy into a lifestyle you don't lead?  Maybe the girl eyeing up your Mulberry bag doesn't know its in fact a fake bought from Turkey whilst on a girls holiday, but YOU do. But fakes are a different topic. I just hope designers wise up and realise that a collaboration with H&M maybe great in the short-term but in the longterm it may stay to chip away at their true identity.

What do you think? Let me know if you agree or disagree!

Ever since reading the Millenium Trilogy (The Girl Who Played With Fire) I have become totally obsessed with Sweden and consequently the Swede's satorial ways. I always check out http://carolinesmode.com/stockholmstreetstyle/?p=5 for up-to-the-minute style inspiration from Sweden's capital. I plan to visit Sweden some time with my boyfriend... Steig Larson would have a lot to answer to (if he were still living) if Sweden doesn't live up to how he made it out to be in his books.

Snow Leopard

I absolutely love this outfit that I am wearing today! The dress is from Oasis, the shoes from Schuh, and the Necklace is from a jewellery designer that uses old materials to make new peices from. the casing of the droplet is an old bullet casing.

When ever I wear black and white clothing I always make sure I accessorise the outfit well, as without the red shoes the outfit would have looked a bit too plain for my liking. Colour and different textures is necessary for my style, as I always like my look to be interesting.

This evening I will be attending my first French class since year nine. I am so excited to learn a new skill, and I am so annoyed with myself that A) I took German for GCSE instead of French B) I thought I was that hilarious back in my younger years that I decided to sing and speak English and German through my French exams. Which then led on to C) Being banned from ever learning French again at school.

So I am starting over - my past relationship with French wiped clean (well for me anyway - hopefully French will feel the same way). I am beginner again, and this time there will be no utterances of ich speile or mein geburtstag ist... Lets just say I scraped a B.

My boyfriend can look forward to me speaking to him in the romantic language. Note to self: Must get rid of my northern twang. I can even tell the difference just by moving to Nottingham, what is it going to be like when I live in Paris with my cute little Pug named Pretentious?

So tonight is the night - back to basics with Chantal Cointot for two hours, I have a nice new notebook and French dictionary to help me along.

Wish me luck!
